Dear almost 7th graders (how did that happen so quickly?!), I thought of you all this week when my friend at work showed me the trailer for Wonder! He taught 3rd grade in Chicago and shared the Precepts from Wonder with his class often. I have such great memories of reading Wonder with you and I hope you are all doing well as you end the school year. If you want a penpal this summer, feel free to e-mail me or write to me! I would love to hear any updates about your year in 6th grade. Peace, Ms. Pickens

Dear 5th Grade Crew,
Hello from South Bend! I hope that your 2017 is off to a great start and that you are enjoying the start to the new year. I hope that you have set goals for yourselves this year. You are smart, and God has given you the ability to do amazing things! Remember last year we discussed study tips? Here is the link if you want to look over these study tips once again. I will be at St. Joe's this Thursday for my Spring visit to see the ACE teachers. I look forward to seeing you all being back with the SJS family! Ms. Pickens Today is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Say a Hail Mary today, thanking her for her endless love and compassion she shows us.
It is difficult to believe that it is already the second week of Advent! Last weekend, I was part of the ACE December Retreat team and saw Mr. Lee, Mr. Watko, and Ms. Dankoff. We gathered the ACE community together in Texas is order to spend time renewing our dedication to students and praying for strength in our faith during this Advent season. Remember we learned about Advent last year in Religion class? Advent is the time when we prepare for Christmas and look for the coming of Christ. It is a time when we can make a promise to prayer more or to be kinder or to look for God in every part of our day. Where have you seen God today? What are you doing this Advent season to grow closer to him? Miss you all! - Ms. Pickens Renee - thanks for asking for more posts on the blog! It is always great to hear from you all. I am happy to update the blog, especially when I know that students are still reading it!
I wanted to remind you all of the great acts of kindness you did last year. With these simple little notes, you were able to transform the days of many people around you. I still have some of them from last year! Let me know if there are any specific questions you would like to me to answer on the blog. Sending prayers your way during this season of Thanksgiving! Peace, Ms. Pickens Dear Crew, ClassDojo released a wonderful new series on Empathy - surely a life skill that we all need to be reminded of each day. Check it out! - Ms. Pickens Dear 6th Graders,
It was SO great to see most of you a few weeks ago during my visit to SJS (Nathaly - I hope you are doing well!). You looked very organized as you took notes in Mr. Watko's math class. Keep being organized as you move throughout the year! Remember last year when we talked about growth mindset? As you learn this year, don't forget to have this attitude when approaching difficult material. You can learn it and you have wonderful teachers who want to help you, so ask lots of questions in order to be the best student you can be. Let me know if there is anything specific you would like me to share on the blog - I am always happy to help! Keep in touch and be your best selves! I am praying for you! - Ms. Pickens - Hi team! I hope that you are having a great summer. Don't forget to send me the letter I gave you at the end of the year when you have time! I would love to hear how your summer is going! Everything in South Bend is going well and I have been able to see my sisters and parents often, which has been great. I miss you all and the classroom already, but I know that your teachers for next year are so excited for the year to start! I am praying for you as you enjoy the last weeks of your summer. Let me know if I can be helpful in any way! Enjoy this video of Kid President! He shares great things about summer and also about doing good work. (Remember CST?) Peace, Ms. Pickens |
